Judith (Judy) Anne Orr Cohn passed away peacefully December 7, 2024, at Ivy Knoll in Covington, KY. She was born January 5, 1942, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Ernest and Atha (nee Hicks) Orr. Judy is survived by 2 children, Alice (the late Stephen Gabbard) Gabbard and Robert (Marilyn) Black, brother James Orr, 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
The family is grateful for the amazing care from staff at Ivy Knoll, where she resided since 2020. The family is also grateful for all the selfless help and tender loving care from Jeff Strickley and from Hospice of the Bluegrass who provided excellent end-of-life care. Her many special friends would say she was funny, brilliant, generous, and determined.
Judy worked in the General Electric Jet Engine Division in Cincinnati for over 40 years, 1966 to 2007. She had a superior understanding of numbers and statistics and was highly respected, thriving in a male-dominated industry. Judy analyzed data from jet engine wind tunnel tests and could give a drag coefficient value for any screw head, rivet, bolt, wire or any other shape tested that may be part of an engine. She was appropriately proud to have survived a series of wide-scale layoffs at GE.
Judy was an accomplished competitor in the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League). Judy achieved Diamond Life Master status playing in many national and regional tournaments. She wrote a book named Power Defensive Carding, first published in 1988. She also hosted the Friday evening duplicate game in Norwood, Ohio for many years and was thrilled to have once won a national event.
As a doting grandma, Judy prepared from scratch and served for the family an international-themed, extravagant dinner on Christmas Eve. As with all her endeavors, Judy at Christmas spared no effort or expense in making beautiful memories for the family she loved so much. She sewed doll clothes and gave her children and grandchildren a big family vacation at Mission Beach in San Diego. She loved to feed the birds and made blankets for the animals in the local shelter.
Judy was very involved in St Andrews Episcopal Church in Ft Thomas, KY, serving on the Acolyte Coordinator team, Altar Guild, Handbell Choir, and the Vestry. Judy was co-designer and coordinator of the St. Andrews Columbarium where her ashes will be interred. She was grateful to Mustafa Dindar who built and donated (as an expression of interfaith love) a beautiful custom table for the columbarium. Her memorial service will be held February 15th at 11:00 AM at St. Andrews with a reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local animal shelter.

December 17, 2024 at 1:29 amPlease accept my condolences on your loss. I knew Judy well at GE. I am an acoustics engineer. Judy was always ready to help and explain aerodynamic aspects ; share her knowledge and eager to learn about my field. She was a kind person and willing to share and learn! A gentle soul. Rest in peace.
